Modular 556 47" Black Aluminum Indoor Floor Lamp by Midgard

Midgard modular lights were once affixed to tools in facilities including the metal workshop at the Bauhaus.  Used by surgeons,  architects, and engineers for decades,  the utility of this system lends itself as a helpful home addition.

Midgard lamps are articulating, positionable table lamps that provide direct illumination of the work surface with a satisfying bakelite switch on each shade. Each shade is spun from aluminum and is either brushed or powder-coated; the stem and base are powder-coated steel. All parts are hand-assembled into each light in Germany using tools originally designed by Curt Fischer for the creation of these lamps.

This lamp has a rotatable shade, style #3307.

Midgard was founded in 1919 by the engineer Curt Fischer, a lamp manufacturer who is producing in Germany to date. Midgard constructed the first articulated “steering lamps,” a true innovation at the beginning of the 20th century, electing Curt Fischer as the inventor of tractable light by many. With his products, Fischer was a supplier of the Bauhaus, where Midgard lamps could be found at the desks of Gropius, Wagenfeld, Brandt, Stoelzl as well as in the Bauhaus apartments.

In 2015 David Einsiedler and Joke Rasch took over the company from the third generation of the Fischers and led it back to production in Hamburg after restructuring. To date, Midgard produces three lamp ranges: the Midgard Modular System, the Spring-loaded Lamp, and K831, all made in Germany and with the use of original tools.
