One of the icons of mid-20th century design, the Apple Vase by Ingeborg Lundin remains one of the most sought after designs of the period.

The primary reason is due to size. Although similar vases were produced in a number of sizes and the addition of additional color to the production run, the clear vase is an imposing but warm accent at 14" in height.

Part of this warmth stems from the use of reduction in the design.  All elements except the fundamentals of the design of an apple (round with stem) have been removed. In the end this is a clear spheroid with a cylinder on top; our brain puts it all together.

For similar expressions in reduction please see Enzo Mari's 1965 silkscreen designs for Danese Milano, here

Lundin's apple vase was a highlight of the Milan Trienniale in 1957, winning a Gold Medal.  This vase dates from that exact period.  The Apple Vase is in numerous museum and private collections.
