Large Loetz Red Carneol Vase, 6", c. 1888
Carneol glass was extremely popular in the 1880s-1890s due to its exhibitions at the Paris World's Fair and the Columbian exhibition in Chicago. Made to resemble semi-precious stones (carnelian, malachite, lapis lazuli, etc) the pieces generally had a classical influence with applied gilding and glass "stones."

Very good condition. Minor wear to gilding. One stone missing.
