What is a firkin? Consider it early tupperware. Designed to keep the varmints out, firkins can be used to hold everything from liquids to garbage. More than likely originally based on liquid measurements, the term 'firkin' is generally used on what looks like a covered bucket. The use of firkins declined in the early part of the 20th century.
This firkin measures about 9.75"h x 9". The handles are attached using wood dowels fixed with square head nails. The lid originally had an attached knob, which is lost. Overally good condition, with wear. A nice decorative piece. For decor only.
