This sardine dove into Bordallo’s dream and to this day, continues to sail through the unknown. Composed of illustrations arranged chronologically, this sardine praises the beginning of its journey in 1884, with the “FF” stamp and historical references, such as the first manufacturing facilities and the respective title of the foundation, swimming towards crucial areas, such as the Exposition Universelle in Paris, or the emblematic “Jarra Beethoven”. In its dream, this sardine encounters characters and collections that, today, are still part of Portuguese iconography.
Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro, one of the most influential people of nineteenth century Portuguese culture, will forever be intimately associated with caricature and artistic ceramics. In 1884, Bordallo began his ceramics production at the Fábrica de Faianças, revealing pieces of great technical, artistic and creative quality. Adopting a modern and entrepreneurial approach, Bordallo Pinheiro plays an essential role in the revitalization of Portuguese ceramics and of the artistic heritage of its factory. Bordallo Pinheiro remains faithful to tradition through the use of ancestral manufacture techniques and the naturalistic motifs at the root of the brand.
