A devoted epicurean, he delighted in refined gatherings, sharing exquisite meals with close companions at Lisbon’s celebrated Leão de Ouro brasserie and within the distinguished circle of the Grupo dos Macavencos at Palácio Foz. His time in Caldas da Rainha was equally indulgent, often spent in the company of Francisco Grandela at his residence in Foz do Arelho, enveloped by sweeping coastal beauty.
From this world of culinary pleasure and maritime inspiration emerged an opulent array of forms—sardines, eels, crabs, lobsters, bivalves, and an abundant variety of fish—seemingly spilling across panniers, grand platters, baskets, vessels, and vases. Each piece was adorned with intricately rendered nets and fishing floats, composing a dramatic and immersive seafaring tableau. The result is a masterful interplay of sculpture and storytelling, brought vividly to life through remarkably precise and sumptuous coloration.
