This is the black ball on top of the lid.

If your kettle has become so hot that this item has melted it is suggested that you replace the entire lid, available here. If you have an older kettle without the clear plastic on the lid then you need an entirely new lid. Please do not order this knob just to save a few dollars; it only fits on the new lids.  Then you will be angry with us and call us cheats. Be happy.
