Sunflower and Swallows Sardine by José Carlos Ferreira for Bordallo Pinheiro
Product Description:
The swallows arrive, heralding spring and giving a foretaste of summer. With them come the sunflowers, garish and imposing, over which, in a carefree but organized flight, the swallows’ flit through the wind and rejoice in the sun’s rays. Now that you’ve imagined this scene in your head, take it home in the shiny ceramic of a Bordallo Pinheiro Sardine.
Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro, one of the most influential people of nineteenth century Portuguese culture, will forever be intimately associated with caricature and artistic ceramics. In 1884, Bordallo began his ceramics production at the Fábrica de Faianças, revealing pieces of great technical, artistic and creative quality. Adopting a modern and entrepreneurial approach, Bordallo Pinheiro plays an essential role in the revitalization of Portuguese ceramics and of the artistic heritage of its factory. Bordallo Pinheiro remains faithful to tradition through the use of ancestral manufacture techniques and the naturalistic motifs at the root of the brand. These decorative pieces continue to feed our collective imagination and to take the prestige of Portuguese culture and industry one step further.
