Virgula Divina Bottle Opener by Frederic Gooris for Alessi
Product Description:
Virgula Divina Bottle Opener by Frederic Gooris for Alessi
A clever design based on the dowsing rod.
According to the designer, Frederic Gooris:
"Dowsing is most commonly known in association with searching for underground water.
Usually, this is accomplished with the aid of a Y-shaped dowsing rod. Dowsing is an ancient practice. Wall murals, estimated to be about 8.000 years old, discovered in the Tassili Caves of North Africa depict tribesmen surrounding a man with a forked stick, possibly dowsing for water. Just like the dowsing rod, the bottle opener helps us get access to liquid. The direct analogy gave birth to the concept of this bottle opener.
The Y-shaped rod is generally a freshly broken off branch. The broken wood is the ideal shape to grab the cap of the bottle, while the other endings are soft and natural, giving a comfortable grip.”
