Wilde Highball, Set of 2, 10.5 oz by Lukáš Novák for Ruckl
The absinthe aficionado and Victorian hedonist knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. Yet, the hand-cut snake serves as a reminder of the fatal temptations, the sins of a Bohemian lifestyle that even Oscar Wilde couldn’t resist.
Oscar Wilde was known for his acclaimed works including 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' and 'The Importance of Being Earnest,' as well as his brilliant wit, flamboyant style, his imprisonment for homosexuality, and his increased alcoholic tendencies after his release from prison.
Wilde’s drink of choice was Absinthe, an anise-flavored spirit derived from a botanical mixture, including the flowers and leaves of Artemisia Absinthium, green Anise, sweet Fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs. Absinthe is extremely potent and believed to cause hallucinations and intense euphoria.
Oscar Wilde was an author, playwright, and poet who was a popular literary figure and art critic in late Victorian England. In 1891, he published The Picture of Dorian Gray, his only novel which was considered immoral by Victorian critics, but is now recognized as one of his most notable works. Unconventional in his writing and life, Wilde’s affair with a young man led to his arrest on charges of "gross indecency" in 1895. He was imprisoned for two years and died three years after his release at the age of 46.
