Fantasie Pearl Bavarian Royal Service Soup Cup, 8.5 oz. by Nymphenburg Porcelain
Product Description:
Fantasie Pearl Bavarian Royal Service Soup Cup, 8.5 oz. by Nymphenburg Porcelain
Manufactured in the year 1918, this legendary service was a special order for the golden wedding anniversary of King Ludwig III and Marie-Therese, with miniature paintings featuring the most important chapters in the lives of the royal couple. This service is a most outstanding example of veduta painting, available with fantasy landscapes, palace motifs or special designs using customer’s own motifs.
This item is special order.
The Form: Designed by the Bohemian sculptor, Dominikus Auliczek (1734-1804), the Pearl service in the Louis XVI style that gets its name from a bar of pearls that runs along the borders of the individual items. For the first time in the history of European porcelain, Auliczek based his service on a dodecagon shape – instead of the usual round shape.
Other pieces in the service are also adorned with acanthus leaves – a typical motif in classical art and architecture, which Auliczek was able to study during his trips around Italy.
The PEARL shape is today also available in white, three in-glaze designs (blue, yellow, green) and painted with pearl decorations in gold or blue as well as in a pure gold decoration. A special version was reserved as the Royal Bavarian Service for the Wittelsbach family, a similar pattern is available as Fantasia.
